“Exegetically Speaking” is a weekly podcast of the friends and faculty of Wheaton College, IL and The Lanier Theological Library. Hosted by Dr. David Capes, it features language experts who discuss the importance of learning the biblical languages—Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek—and show how reading the Bible in the original languages “pays off.” Each podcast lasts between seven and eleven minutes and covers a different topic for those who want to read the Bible for all it is worth.

Did God Give Commands to Harm His People?, with Jason Gile: Ezekiel 20:25-26

Dr. Jason Gile, Dean of Program Development & Innovation and Affiliate Professor of Old Testament at Northern Seminary in Lisle, IL, is the author of Ezekiel and the World of Deuteronomy, among other things. His work with Hebrew began at the University of Wisconsin and he went on to study Greek as well, before completing his doctorate at Wheaton Graduate School. In this conversation, he answers the question: Does Ezekiel 20:25-26 say that God gave laws “that were not good,” as long understood and as some translations suggest? Close attention to the Hebrew words points in another direction.
